I have one copy of
Rumors of God by Darren Whitehead and Jon Tyson to give away. If you would like to enter the contest, please comment on this post with a recent experience you have had with God and how it impacted you and include some way to contact you. I will select one person from all entries received by August 31, 2011. Of course, should I not be able to contact the winner, I will try someone else after 3 days. Anyway I look forward to reading how God has moved in your lives.
I had an experience with God just yesterday that reminded me that He's always with us - even in those crisis moments. I'm one of those folks who lives in the suburbs and commutes in to work on a local highway each morning. On my trek in yesterday morning I witnessed a serious car crash. The road curves just before the site of the accident so I just saw the actual impact which was pretty intense. Cars spinning, smoke, glass flying, lots of crumpled metal. I pulled over as did a truck behind me along with a couple of cars coming from the opposite direction. The other folks were quicker than I was getting out of their vehicles so I thought the most helpful thing I could do would be to call 911. As I was speaking to the Dispatcher I realized that two of the people from the cars that stopped had reflective vests and were already directing traffic. It was peak morning rush hour so this was no small detail. Just as I told the 911 Operator that we needed an ambulance, one pulled in and parked ahead of me. I assume they were enroute but available when they came upon the scene. I marveled that even in this time of crisis God had sent hands to help. When I resumed my commute, I also remembered that just before I came upon the accident, I had been travelling in the fast line (I travel a four lane divided highway). A car was following close behind me wanting to travel more quickly. I'm not proud to say that often I'll just pick up speed too but yesterday I decided to move left to the slower lane to let the other car proceed. I remember the thought passing through my mind that the slow lane provided more safety as it would give an extra second of reaction time if ever someone came across the median. Had I stayed in the fast lane it's quite likely I would have had to swerve to miss the accident or could possibly have been caught up in the accident myself. While the whole experience was upsetting and I'm praying the folks actually involved in the accident are OK, all of this really brought home to me how God is always walking with us through both good times and bad.
